When I first read the article I couldn't believe this was still happening today. A wealthy New York woman was sentence to 11 years in prison for imprisoning her housekeepers. One of the housekeepers claims that they were forced to eat peppers and when they couldn't anymore, then they were forced to eat their own vomit.
The two woman came to Varsha Sabhnani and her husband with the idea of working as housekeeps and sending 200 dollars each month to their families, but instead Varsha took their passports, beat them, and enslave them. Varsha Sabhnani was also accused of smuggling "aliens."
Varsha Sabhnani faces 11 years in prison and a 25,000 dollar fine. Her husband is free on bail, but also might face a shorter prison sentence then his wife.
