Scumbag of the Week - John Derbyshire

John Derbyshire is an immigration hardliner who has regularly vilified undocumented immigrants, particularly those from Mexico and other Hispanic countries in the National Review.

A typical comment consists of:
"hordes of Central Americans pouring into our country."

Derbyshire has also expressed this sentiment:
"Impose draconian penalties on visa overstayers, including lifetime exclusion from the U.S.''

Get this, this piece of work was an undocumented immigrant who overstayed his visa by 5 years. I say if we are going to implement his policies, let's start with this ungrateful asshole. Kick him out and see how he likes it. If he self-deports and doesn't mind being separated from his family and never seeing his home again, then maybe I'll take his proposals more seriously.

Here he is bragging about his years as an undocumented immigrant, he seems rather proud. I guess it's only the brown kind of undocumented immigrants he hates. Just in case you have any lingering notions that this guy is anything but the scum of the earth read this quote:

"The U.S.A. was born with two race problems: the African Americans and the Native Americans. We struggle with those problems still, and must continue to struggle. Would it be wise to import a new one? "

I refuse to link to the National Review for paying this asshole to write this crap. Go to the comments section of this post and copy and paste the urls if you think I'm making this up.

Political Officials - Undocumented Immigrants?

A former California Republican Party official who resigned last year from his $130,000/year position in a controversy over his immigration status had no valid visa or work permit during his high-profile career as a Washington lobbyist. The man is a Polish-Australian immigrant who is just now in the process of legalization after several years as an undocumented immigrant. Here is a link to the Wonkette post

He's got good company, our buddy Arnold the governor violated the terms of his visa and would have been deported if ICE had been notified. Instead, Arnold went on to become a legal resident, then citizen, and now he is our very own self hating governor.

Another self hating politician with an "undocumented past" is Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico who's mother was an undocumented immigrant.

Then of course there is Ayann Hirsi Ali who was an undocumented immigrant in Denmark who made it into the Dutch Parliment and in
2005 TIME Magazine labeled her amongst the 100 Most Influential Persons of the World. She now works and lives in the U.S. for a conservative think tank.

The point of this post is to highlight how the shadow population is hidden in plain sight. It isn't always the day laborer, sometimes it's our high paid lobbyists or politician. I also offer this up as supporting evidence about my statement in this post regarding "wealthy" undocumented immigrants.

Why Mitt Romney's a Scumbag

So what about Mitt Romney? It turns out his great-grandfather was a polygamous Mormon who evaded prosecution by crossing the border into Mexico with his family, including his son Gaskell, Mitt’s grandfather (see reference). George Wilcken Romney, Mitt’s father, was born in 1907. The Romneys re-entered the United States in 1912, during the Mexican Revolution (although some relatives still live there).

In other words, the Romneys violated federal law, and rather than face the music they fled the United States, crossing illegally into another country, where their Mexico-born descendants acquired the rights of citizenship in the host country. Sound familiar?

This is why I find Mitt Romney's position on undocumented immigrants so ironic. Never mind that he hires undocumented gardeners, but the fact that he can so easily brush aside his immigrant roots is appalling.

Another One Packs His Bags

Mitt Romney was counting on his sudden change into an anti-immigration hardliner to take him all the way to the White House, looks like it'll just take him back to his house. I'm sure the undocumented gardeners will at least put up a "Welcome back Scumbag, we're still here" sign.

Australians Against Further Immigration......Unless Its Their Son

Australians Against Further Immigration (AAFI) is a political party founded and led by Rodney Spencer and his wife Robyn Spencer. Prominently displayed on their site are links to U.S. organizations seeking to eliminate immigration to the US. So you can imagine how surprised I was to find out their own son was an immigrant to the U.S. Jesse Spencer, an actor who currently plays Dr. Robert Chase on the TV series House immigrated to the US. Despite this, he is quoted as saying he is still close to his parents and that they are very proud of him. ????? Even though he committed the very action they are most opposed to? How do they even begin to justify this?

Story Regarding Rodney Spencer
He goes on to speak of Asians being self-propagating to the point of becoming a “critical mass” and becoming “uncontrollable”. Ultimately, says Spencer, [they] “will have all the top positions, and you'll have a scenario for resentment”.

Journalist Andrew Silberberg found a “disturbing association between key leaders of AAFI and racist, anti-semitic groups and publications”.

“Two wongs don't make a white”, sneers a headline in the virulently racist NSW publication, the National Reporter.

“The latest edition of the Reporter states: `This newsletter exists solely due to the voluntary efforts, sacrifices and generous donations of many hardworking Australians, some of whom we would like to acknowledge here: ... R. & R.S. - Armadale'”, reports Silberberg. On their own admission, R&RS are the Spencers."

I also found this story
The party has long-standing connections to far-right anti-immigration groups. Many of its members have regularly made remarks on the public record which could be construed as racist.

Party founders Dr Rodney and Robyn Spencer donated to and endorsed the National Reporter newspaper in the early 90's - a paper that ran a stream of white supremacist propaganda.

In 1996, in two separate findings, the Australian Press Council found that the Australian Jewish News was entitled to call AAFI "racist" and "extremist".

Senator Pete Domenici

"During the heated immigration debate on Capitol Hill, some Republicans have portrayed immigrants as invaders, criminals and burdens to society. But for Senator
Pete V. Domenici, Republican of New Mexico, the image that comes to mind is that of his mother and the day the authorities took her away.

It was 1943, World War II was raging, and federal agents were sweeping through Albuquerque hunting for Italian sympathizers. They found Mr. Domenici's mother, Alda V. Domenici, a curly-haired mother of four and a local PTA president who also happened to be an illegal immigrant from Italy. Mr. Domenici, who said he was 9 or 10 years old then, wept when his mother vanished with the agents in their big black car.

Now 73, Mr. Domenici surprised many of his colleagues when he stood up on the Senate floor last week and shared the story, which he has kept mostly to himself for much of his life."

His mother was brought to the US as a child and had this been the situation today she would have been eligible (provided she completed at least 2 years of college or joined the military) for the DREAM Act.

The sad irony is Pete Domenici voted against the DREAM Act only a couple months ago. I wonder if Pete let any of the hate mail labeling him an "anchor baby" contribute to such a blatant disregard of his heritage.

Tancredo Employed Undocumented Workers

With all the fuss surrounding Romney and hiring undocumented gardeners. I think it's only fair we point out the biggest hypocrite of the bunch. Tom Tancredo. For most of us this this is old news but for the rest of you, here's another reason to despise Tancredo. One of his constituents started the Tancredowatch, check out for more information on him.

Mitt's Skeleton Closet

By now everyone knows, Mitt Romney is a hypocrite. He hires undocumented gardeners yet vilifies undocumented workers. He implements harsh measures against immigrants but only a few weeks before he leaves the governor's office. Here is Mitt speaking on immigration only of May this year.
My oh my Mitt, do you have a lot of explaining to do.

Click here to watch Mitt's views on Immigration as of May 25, 2007.
3 months later and he does a 180. tsk, tsk.
