If you were to listen to the media or some of the republican candidates you would
come away thinking republicans are xenophobic bigots who hate all "foreigners".
This assumption is derogatory and the fact that some republican candidates think they
need to pander to a very small xenophobic segment of their electorate is disturbing
and insulting to the Republican party as a whole.
Lesson #1. There is no such thing as an anchor baby.
State and national civil liberties advocates have compelled a rural Nevada school district to roll back a policy prohibiting high school students from speaking Spanish on the bus.
The guideline was approved at an October school board meeting and affected about a dozen children from Hispanic families who ride a school bus more than an hour each way between Dyer, in Esmeralda County, and Tonopah High School, over the Nye County line. Most of the Hispanic children are from immigrant families drawn to the area to work its cattle ranches and alfalfa farms.
Click here for the link.This policy shows how ignorant people are. Children are learning English!! It is very easy for children (far, far, easier) to pick up new languages than adults. Go to any immigrant community and try to find a child who has grown up here that doesn't speak English fluently. They don't exist!
You know who thinks children of immigrants don't speak English, people who don't know any children of immigrants. I'm sure some of them know that these kids speak English in addition to Spanish but their bigotry against Spanish speakers got the better of them. God forbid we have kids that are bi-lingual.
On another note
When did it become acceptable for elected officials to target children in their hate mongering? What is this country coming to?
Many say they are living the "American Dream," but almost none trumpet their achievements because they fear deportation.
One example is a 38-year-old computer engineer who overstayed his visa after arriving from Colombia in 1999. Not long after, he founded a Web design firm in Miami that specializes in e-commerce.
Today it's a fast-growing, tax-paying company that recently developed a Web platform for online radio and television that could be a breakthrough technology.
"We are at a good point now, making money," said the man, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of his immigration status. "We are growing every month because our customers are happy. They are U.S. companies making a lot of money from our Web sites."
But the man is near the end of a long administrative process that will likely lead to his deportation. Then his company would close and workers, including Americans, would be laid off.

Based on my experience I think 20,000 is an underestimation. I know of an undocumented family with a household income of over 100,000 a year (and yes, they do pay taxes) and another mixed status family (at least one family member is undocumented) that makes over 100,000. Not to mention the large number of former undocumented immigrants who are extremely well off now. I also wouldn't be surprised if there were a handful of millionaires tucked into the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants as well.
I'm willing to put good money on a bet that most of you know a person who is or was undocumented at some point and is well off, you just don't know it. For example, here is an example of an undocumented immigrant making $130,000 a year working for the California GOP. The best example of this can be seen in the Govenor of California, our very own Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"For a lot of people, they just like McCain - maverick in chief, the Straight Talk Express. They want to be convinced."
That's right. Despite Romney's constant efforts to remind Republican voters that immigration is a wedge issue that is supposed to drive them crazy, Florida voters just forgot that John McCain is the author of a comprehensive immigration reform bill with Ted Kennedy in the Senate. Could it be that Beck's favorite wedge issue isn't so powerful after all?
But that still doesn't explain why the Washington Post is consulting Beck in the first place. He served for years as Washington Editor for The Social Contract, which is published by John Tanton, and has a history of proudly publishing works with white supremacist content, such as the wildly racist novel The Camp of the Saints by Jean Raspail. Now Beck runs NumbersUSA, another anti-immigration group founded by Tanton, who, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, is also a funder.

Romney's hardliner stance is actually hurting him with republicans in California but
every time I turn on the TV there is some pundit saying the opposite. I think it's time people
stop living in lala land and look at the truth. Our immigration system is broken but we can't
fix it if we keep using immigrants as scapegoats for everything wrong with the country.
The American people realize it, so why can't the media and more specifically some of the candidates?
Independents and democrats tend to lean towards McCain and Giuliani's approaches to
handling immigration more so than even republicans so these numbers are actually skewed in Romney's
direction to begin with.
